When our family members began to arrive from Oregon, California, Virginia and various locations in Michigan, the response from the adults and the children was basically, "this place is gorgeous!". That evening, we had a rehearsal beach party with a bonfire and felt as if we had the entire coastline to ourselves in both directions. We went on to celebrate my daughter's wedding on the beach the next day and enjoy a sit-down reception dinner on the spacious decks overlooking Lake Michigan in the evening. People asked over and over "How did you find such a beautiful spot? It is just perfect! " For the remainder of the week, my immediate family thoroughly enjoyed ourselves: inside around the jig-saw puzzles at a table in the living room; sharing lunches on the deck or on the lawn(where there was always a spot to suit one's fancy, full-sunshine or full shade and everything in-between); and best of all, time on the beach to frolic in the water or to just relax. Much of the time, it felt as if we were on a deserted island with miles of lake stretching out to the horizon and towering sand dune bluffs behind us. We felt truly blessed to be in such a special place. All of the adults agreed: There just aren't many places in the world to compare with the beauty and the solitude of this spot.
In addition, different family members made time to: golf at two near-by courses, rent Jeep Wranglers at Silver Lake Dunes, go horse-back riding, to visit an outstanding petting zoo, and the big outing of the week, go to Michigan Adventure for the day.
In addition, we found the owner, Mr. Fritz Gearhart, to be pleasant and helpful, esp. in regard to getting the outside area prepared for the wedding and reception to follow.
