Apartment in Foggy Bottom
The apartment was in the perfect location for us as we settled our son into his first year at George Washington University. We could walk everywhere, and we did!
The only improvement I would suggest would be the installation of a higher flow shower head - please!
Great location, metro and bus..easy walk to the mall
Suggest more towel racks in bathroom, more garbage bags..more cook ware..only 2 pots and 2 small fry pans. Small pot was not clean..burned food on the bottom. Location great however you will hear ambulance sirens frequently. Would have preferred a unit above street level. Mention to future guests there is a farmers market every Wed.
Great location. But NOT the unit we chose from the pictures. Cramped and Uncomfortable
We found this unit on VRBO. It is in a great area, close to the GWU/Foggy Bottom metro stop. Lots of pictures showed a lot of common space in the unit for our family of 4. (Kitchen, dining area with table comfortably positioned for 4, and a lot of additional living space for a large couch for 3, additional cushioned chair, large rug, large TV on the wall, and a window in this living area showing cars outside) The bedrooms had room for cushioned chairs, and windows. There were also pictures of common space in the building. Nice. It looked great and we were really excited.
The building was nice, and the common space as pictured. But, the unit we checked into was not the unit from the photos. It had a cramped 13 x 13 ft area for the kitchen space, the dining room table, (pulled away from the wall to have 4 seated, then refrigerator and couch blocked) a two person couch, one central and one end table with lamp, TV, (with lots of wires) poorly lit and no windows. The bedrooms were very tight, the walls had lots of scuffs or damage to the sheetrock, and the mirror in the bathroom had large glue marks on it. It said toiletries were supplied, and consisted of a single hotel- sized shampoo and conditioner, and 2 bars of soap. For a family of 4. I called Stay Alfred to ask for more, and had to leave a message. When they called back 45 minutes later, I was told that is all they supply, even for a 7 day stay. Better to just say toiletries not supplied. Coffee maker with 3 packets of coffee. So purchased coffee for the rest of the week. But then no filters. Actually, no food supplies except salt and pepper. The area was so cramped and uncomfortable that we all watched TV in the evening on the king bed. The unit was positioned one floor up from ground level, but was over the entrance to a public parking garage so a lot of noise at 5:30am with cars backed up to enter, with music playing really loud.
Still had a great time in DC, and the location great. But a bummer returning to the unit each evening. Probably better tolerated if the advertising was honest. I saw no disclaimer that the pictures were generally representative for units without being specific to this unit. Will likely not choose a Stay Alfred offering again.
When our friends first arrived in the apartment, it wasn’t completely clean. Black hair was found in the bed, shower, and on the couch. There were white stains on the couch as well — none of us felt comfortable enough to sit on the sofa, as a result. Also, the fire alarms were uninstalled and sitting on the kitchen table, which we all felt was extremely strange. We decided to leave them where we found them in case it was the company’s doing or a the previous customer’s doing. Four of us were staying and there were only 2 towel sets available in the bathroom, so I called to ask for extra towels and washcloths. I immediately was questioned on why I needed extra and was asked to recall the number of guests in my room. Then, I was told that our towel sets would be dropped off “at some point today”. Not in 5-15 mins... just some point today. Then, upon receiving a complaint for a matter we were falsely accused of, we were presented with two options for resolutions — either the windows were to be opened to provide ventilation or we would need to leave the premises. Of course, we wouldn’t voluntarily choose to leave, so we agreed to open windows of the apartment. However, not even 5 minutes later, we were told that we were being kicked out. There was another false claim that we closed the door in the leasing staffs face — an absolute lie! We spoke to two different women in both encounters — Woman #2 kept stating that it was the “wrong” person to come to the door the first time. If it was her it wouldn’t have happened. As Woman #1, walks by she doesn’t address or acknowledge us but asks Woman #2 if she needed any help. Help!?! We weren’t irate or anything. If anything we were extremely confused, as the conversation led to the police would be called if we didn’t leave in timely fashion. I asked how long do we have to evacuate... and was told 15 mins, but that was her “being nice”. We are black and not trying to lose our lives or be sent to jail, so the best decision was to oblige. It was clear they didn’t want us there — Woman #2 giggled as we departed the building peacefully. I will never stay, recommend, or even look at a Stay Alfred and will be making a more formal complaint very soon.
The unit was spotless, conveniently located, and the staff was incredibly responsive and accommodating.
Thank you so much for leaving us a review of your stay. We are glad that you enjoyed your time with us and would love to host you again. - The Stay Alfred Team
