We stayed at this rental for almost three months so we are well able to review this property; but we almost walked out after the first day. Way too much of our vacation time was spent dealing with cleanliness and maintenance issues. We documented everything to the property managers and it was all witnessed by other people. To us, the issues we encountered indicate that no one has the responsibility of inspecting this rental between renters, or checking periodically for needed deeper cleaning or maintenance.
When we arrived there was “caked on” dust and dirt on baseboards in the kitchen, living, and dining areas. Fan blades, window sills, and valances were likewise dirty and had dust falling from them. All carpets needed to be vacuumed, and the tile floors were so dirty they needed to be steam cleaned. The property manager and a cleaning person had to come on the second day and attend to all of this.
There were no clean, usable kitchen pots and pans. Cupboard shelves were gritty and greasy and some dishware had caked on food. The toaster only heated on one side, the clothes dryer did not dry the clothes, and the vacuum cleaner would not clean a carpet. The property manager bought new cookware, toaster, coffee maker, glassware, vacuum, and dryer for us. We asked the property manager for a ‘Swiffer’ wet mop so we could clean the tile floors, which we then did on a regular basis. We also vacuumed carpets and rugs every week, including the stairs.
Several light bulbs and TV remote batteries were missing or not working. There was a bedroom lamp with no bulb and a missing switch. Three bathroom sink stoppers were missing or non-functional. Two dining chairs were broken. My wife sat on one of these chairs and was almost injured because the seat was not even attached to the chair frame.
The gated community always seemed to be safe for walking or bike riding. The living room furniture was comfortable, but the TV is a bit small. We thought the mattresses in three of the bedrooms were well beyond their useful life. The WiFi was sporadic and could not be counted on.
We were told the swimming pool was heated, but for 80 days it was not. If you don’t care about the types of issues we had to deal with, this rental may be fine. We are still trying to figure out if the property managers are not fulfilling their job to the owner, or the owner is just not proactively maintaining the property. No apology or partial refund has been offered for our inconveniences.
